Effect of Graded Hypothermia (27° to 34°C) on Behavioral Function, Histopathology, and Spinal Blood Flow After Spinal Ischemia in Rat

چکیده
Background and Purpose We used a rat model of reversible spinal ischemia to assess the effect of spinal cord temperature on the development of neurological and histopathologic changes after 20 minutes of reversible aortic occlusion. Spinal cord blood flow and CO2 reactivity was tested by using laser Doppler before and 60 minutes after ischemia. Methods In halothane (l%)-anesthetized rats, the spinal cord temperature as assessed by using thermocouple in the paraspinal muscles was lowered to 34°, 31°, or 27°C. After ischemia, spinal cord temperature was raised to 37°C for the next 30 minutes. Animals were maintained in this normothermic condition for 8 hours, after which motor and sensory function were assessed. All animals were then anesthetized and perfused with 10% formalin for light microscopic analysis of spinal cords. Results In normothermic animals, 20 minutes of ischemia resulted in a loss of CO2 reactivity and hind limb paraplegia

Background and Aim: Many studies have shown the neuroprotective effect of systemic hypothermia in the treatment of spinal cord injury. But the effect of delay hypothermia is not known. The goal of this study was to evaluate the effects of Methylprednisolone on the therapeutic window of hypothermia treatment following experimental Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) by measuring the accumulation of Poly...
متن کاملProtective effect of lutein on spinal cord ischemia-reperfusion injury in rats
Objective(s): Paraplegia is deterioration in motor or sensory function of the lower limbs that can occur after modification of a thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm. The purpose of this survey was to determine the protective action of lutein on spinal cord ischemia-reperfusion (I-R) damage. Materials and Methods: Thirty-five male rats were distributed into five groups: intact, sham, dimethyl sulfo...

Purpose: Recent studies revealed the neuroprotective effects of green tea antioxidant on experimental cerebral ischemia, but these effects on spinal cord injury (SCI) has not yet been studied.Materials and Methods: Rats were randomly divided into three groups of 18 rats each as follows: sham group (laminectomy), control group (SCI) and experimental group (EGCG). Spinal cord samples were taken 2...
متن کاملProtective effect of aqueous spinach (Spinacia oleracea L.) extract on spinal cord ischemia-reperfusion injury in rats
Operation on the thoraco-abdominal aorta may lead to paraplegia or paraparesis is after spinal ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury. In this study, we investigated the protective effect of the spinach extract on spinal cord I/R injury. Thirty-five male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into five groups: Intact, sham surgery, normal saline (NS), low dose spinach extract (20 mg kg-1), high...
متن کاملThe Effect of Reperfusion after Short Time Ischemic on Spinal Cord on Rat
Introduction: Ischemia plays an important role in the development of pathologic in various neuropathies, and reperfusion improves the pathological and physiological abnormalities of ischemic nerves. In this study, the effect of shortreperfusion time after short time ischemic on spinal cord of rat was investigated. Methods: Eighteen rats (Sprague-Dawley, 250-350 g), were divided into 3 groups: g...
